Today we’re going to talk about backing up Exchange Server 2007 on Windows Server 2008 and EBS 2008.

Now, you probably know that the built-in backup program in Windows Server 2008 and EBS 2008 cannot natively backup Exchange Server 2007.

However, with BackupAssist, all that changes. You see, BackupAssist has its own plug-in into Windows Server Backup that will:

  1. correctly notify the Exchange VSS Writer that a backup is taking place
  2. perform the necessary database integrity checks on the VSS snapshot to make sure that your database is healthy
  3. this applies if you’re not using circular logging – it will ensure that your log files are deleted properly so you don’t run out of hard drive space
  4. report entire process in the backup report

And the great thing is that because it’s a plug-in into the existing architecture, the restore procedure is fully integrated into the standard Microsoft Server restore process. That means you can restore just Exchange by itself, or you can perform a full server restore from bare metal.

Finally, this capability is just a fraction of the cost many other Exchange backup products out there in the marketplace. It’s designed to be a lightweight, simple to use and straightforward solution.

So try BackupAssist today and see for yourself how easy it is to backup Exchange Server 2007 on Windows Server 2008.
